With Style and a Little Grace: October 2016

Tricks and Treats

Happy Monday and Happy Halloween Friends! I hope your day is filled with tons of Halloween goodness. I thought I would give you a little snippet of Charlies Halloween costumes past. Sadly, this year I didn't have time to do anything for him. We have been working on the new house nonstop, but I am excited to say it is MOVING WEEK. We are packing/finishing the projects at the new house and are moving this weekend. We could not be more excited to finally move in - I feel like it has been one of the busiest months of our life.

We are Trick or Treating with our godchildren tonight and I plan on eating WAY too much candy - I hope you have a spooktacular day! I spent my weekend scraping popcorn and managed to squeeze in a little Halloween movie marathon - Halloween (a classic), Hocus Pocus, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. All necessities before Halloween is over.

Pumpkin Bread

I will reiterate again how much I love this time of year - the crisp - sometimes cool weather, the clothing and the layers, again sometimes, or maybe just for the morning in Mobile, and of course the pumpkin and apple everything! I made this pumpkin bread last week and I think it is a great classic version that goes well with your cup of coffee in the morning.

Pumpkin Bread Recipe

2 cups of Pumpkin
3 cups of Sugar
1 cup of Vegetable Oil
2/3 cup Water
4 Eggs
31/2 cups of Flour
2 tsp. Baking Soda
2 tsp. Ground Cinnamon
2 tsp. Nutmeg

Mix pumpkin, sugar, oil, water, and eggs in mixing bowl until well combined.

In medium bowl, combine other ingredients and then gradually mix into large bowl and combine everything.

Spray our loaf pans and pour in mixture.

Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes or until done.

Serve and Enjoy!

Sinatra in the Fall

Something about the Fall always has me playing my favorite Sinatra songs on repeat. They just feel like there should be a chill in the air and the same can be said for Norah Jones, so good with a cup of cocoa. I purchased this chunky knit from ASOS and it is soft and cozy and perfect for layering in Mobile when it's chilly in the morning and hotter towards the afternoon. My new high-waisted jeans have been on repeat and I am loving the dark wash. Oh another song I am in love with is Closer by The Chainsmokers on repeat. Anyone else loving it too?

Currently reading The Ramblers - my  book of the month, especially enjoying because it is set around Thanksgiving. Perfect time of year for this read - full review later this week.

Friday Five

Happy Friday Friends! There is a chill in the air and the Halloween decorations are in full effect. It makes me so happy! It has been a hard week - we lost my sweet grandmother a week ago today and as glad as I am that she is not suffering I miss her every single day. Her service was beautiful and such a testament to what a life she had. I am so blessed and proud to be her granddaughter.

Between the traveling and trying to be in our house in two weeks - our lives are a little manic right now. We are buckling down this weekend and trying to get a ton finished. Wish us luck. I might try to squeeze in some pumpkin bread and a Hocus Pocus viewing to really get me in the Halloween spirit.

- The most beautiful flower arrangements that were given to all the grandchildren and children after my grandmother's service. I want them to last forever.

- Enjoying Milo's and Taco Casa twice in one month - Oh just looking at this picture makes me hungry!

- A few little Halloween moments around our house. I didn't get everything out this year since we are moving in two weeks.

- Enjoying the cutest pumpkin patch in Downtown Mobile

- Current state of affairs at the new house - it might not look like it but tons of progress is happening.

Make sure you are following my Snapchat - GracieJohnston for tons of house updates all weekend. I hope you have a Spooktacular one - time to cram all the Halloween fun in!

Something Wicked in Your Bath - Lush

I look forward to my nightly bath ritual everyday. It is my time to unwind. I light my candle (right now Bath & Body Works Pumpkin Pie), run my bath, and catch up on You-Tube or watch a show on Netflix. I absolutely love beautiful bath products and no one does fun seasonal bath products better than Lush. I wish we lived near a store, because I would be there all the time. I just ordered two little Halloween treats, but I am planning on getting several Christmas products to outfit my new bigger bath in the new house. Can't Wait!

Are you a fan of Lush?  So many yummy goodies for my favorite time of year!

Save vs. Splurge OTK Boots

I have been lusting after the Stuart Weitzman 5050 boots for 2 seasons now and honestly we live in Mobile and I can NOT justify my cost per use on those boots. However, I desperately want to add a fun pair of over the knee boots to my wardrobe. I have been scouring the internet and have found that the $200 price point is still a little too rich for my blood and the hot Mobile climate. Tonight I found this adorable pair at Target for $60 and knew I had to share! I might have to pull the trigger on these beauties.

Are you into the over the knee boot trend?

5 Beauty Lusts

Happy Monday y'all! I went into a deep dark online shopping hole last night and added about 1000 things to my Nordstrom wish-list - anyone else ever have this issue? I noticed that a ton of the items were beauty products. I basically ran out of everything at the same time which is miserable because then you have to spend a fortune to replenish all your beauty products - am I right? Here are the top five items I am looking to add to my beauty drawer in the near future.

I would love to know what you are loving so I can add to my ( too long ) list of products I want to try.

1. Chanel Poudre Universelle Compact  - I am looking to splurge on a great powder because I think it is totally worth it and my powder usually lasts a fairly long time. This one got amazing reviews.

2. MAC Lip Pencil in Whirl - Embarrassed to admit I have wanted to try this one ever since the whole Kylie Jenner obsession. It just looks like the most perfect neutral.

3. Kat Von D Tattoo Eye Liner - Everyone raves about this eye liner and says it is one of the best ones ever. I am ready to jump on the bandwagon.

4. Bobbi Brown Eye Blender Brush - I have been looking to add a brush that will blend out all the lines of my eyeshadow and this is the perfect brush to blend. The one I am currently using is just a tad too small.

5. Laura Mercier Tinter Moisturizer SPF 20  - This will give me just the right amount of coverage for those casual days when I don't want a full face of makeup. Again this one seems to be a cult classic and gets amazing reviews.

I hope you are having an amazing week! Don't forget that 13 Nights of Halloween starts this Wednesday night!

We Bought a House!!!!

We finally bought a house y'all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This has been a long process and we are so happy that this beauty is finally ours. We closed two weeks ago, but between working on the house and traveling to see family I haven't had a chance to update. It's our first house and we can't wait to make it our own.

We will not be moving in until the end of October, because we are doing several updates ourselves - send us some good vibes haha! Here is what we are doing before move in day.

TO DO

Scraping all the popcorn off the ceilings
Painting the entire house
Recess lighting in the living room - have an electrician coming in for this one

In the Future

Updating kitchen granite/backsplash
Pool house update and paint
Work on backyard

Henry and I are so excited and I can't wait for tons of before and after photos on the blog. I will still be doing my usual fashion and beauty posts, but there will be a ton more home decor posts coming your way and I can't tell you how long I have been waiting to do all those posts. I took tons of before photos so stay tuned for progress. There is a ton to do to make it our own, but we are excited!

Thank you for reading even though my posts have been slightly sporadic! It has been a very busy two months!

Pimento Cheese Dip Recipe

I posted a photo of this recipe on my Game Day post, but wanted to give y'all the recipe as well because it is SO good! We all know I LOVE pimento cheese as evidenced in these recipe posts here and here.  Make them both - you won't be disappointed if you like pimento cheese. I went with a version of Paula Deen's recipe mixed with one from Pinterest and I loved it. It was a hit with our friends and I will be making it again soon.

Pimento Cheese Dip

1/2 Cup of Mayo

2 Cups of shredded pepper jack cheese

2 cups of shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 block of cream cheese

1 jar of pimentos

1 Tablespoon spicy or creole mustard or to taste

1 Teaspoon garlic seasoning or to taste

Salt and Pepper to taste

Mix all your ingredients together and bake in the oven on 325 for 15-20 minutes. Serve with Ritz crackers.

And work out extra hard the next day ;) because you won't be able to stop eating it!

Recent Fall Purchases

Happy October everyone - are you enjoying this gorgeous weather as much as we are? The pumpkin patch went up today near my office and it seriously instantly put me in the best mood. I truly love this time of year - I am ready for 13 nights of Halloween and cozy fires.

I have a ton of items I need to add to my wardrobe, but as you all know I am trying to fill it with classics that will last and it takes me a little while to save up the money for those purchases. I have pretty much gotten my wardrobe down to those nice items that I love and I have found that the items I have on my list and the ones I think about before purchasing are the ones I end up wearing time and time again. Moral of the story - cost per wear is a real thing and it is totally worth it to spend more on your wardrobe - always!  I have been able to add a few new things recently that I am pretty excited about and wanted to share.

Chunky Knit Sleeveless Jumper * on sale - A neutral sleeveless sweater has been on my list for awhile and since we live in Mobile Alabama this is perfect for layering. This one looks so cozy and gorgeous.

Roll Neck Top  - I know this is super similar to the sweater, but I wanted some great neutral layering pieces and I just didn't have any. This is a little see through but I am hoping it will be great with a cardigan.

Nike Tank  *on sale  - I am in desperate need of some more work-out gear and couldn't resist this cute Nike tank when I saw it last week. I love it with my grey and black running pants.

Current/Elliott High Waist Skinny Jeans - We drove to Athens last weekend to visit my grandmother and the entire drive I kept having to pull my pants up over and over. Maybe #thisis30 but the drive home I promptly ordered some high waist jeans and I am in love with them. I love the dark wash and I think they are perfect for the Fall - next up I want a pair of boyfriend jeans for casual days. These are not quite as high as I wanted them to be but I really like the fit. Thinking I will get some black high waist as well.

Slim Fit Pants in Burgundy  - These were an impulse buy on Amazon because I wanted some burgundy pants for Fall and I am loving them. They come in a ton of colors and I am thinking about ordering the mustard too. Great for work with blouses or sweaters.

Laptop Case -  I saw a few You-Tubers/Bloggers with marble cases and I have been meaning to order one every since I got my new Mac Book. Well once I got a tiny scratch on it last week I finally pulled the trigger. Wish I did it earlier and I am loving the sleek gorgeousness of this case.

I am realizing now that I have quite a nice little haul here. I might need to slow down a little.  I hope you are having a fabulous October and thank you so much for reading! What is currently on your Fall wish-list?

Happy Tuesday Loves! I don't know about y'all, but at our house in the Fall it is all about football. Now I don't love watching the game, but I do love putting together the fun details that make a great football gathering! Give me delicious dips, snacks, beer, and friends - I'm in!

My Guide to the Perfect Coffee Table

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |

Let's talk coffee tables y'all! For the past 5 years, our coffee table has been a very cool ship door table that Henry's grandfather made. Unfortunately, that is not coming with us when we move so I have been scouring the internet for the perfect coffee table option - for the right price. I am going to be honest - the idea of decorating my own house is beyond thrilling, but the whole process is also overwhelming at the same time. Especially, when every dollar counts you want to make sure you are getting something you absolutely love.

I find that making collages for each room really helps me to sort out where I see things going. Right now I am leaning towards the glass and gold option here but I am basically in love with all of these and their budget friendly price tags. As someone who has literally never bought a coffee table here are a few things I learned about myself. I like a rectangular coffee table and it has to be tall enough - no stumpy tables allowed. What are your favorite coffee table options?

Our Weekend + Taking Stock October

- Fabulous Birthday Brunch with friends at Five downtown. The Bloody Mary Bar alone is totally worth a try. The Crab Cake Eggs Benedict was divine.

- Our first piece of furniture that I scored at an Estate sale on Saturday morning. I am kind of in love with it.

- Two new additions to my Beauty Drawer - Nars Turkish Delight Gloss and Mac Pigment Pot in Tan

- The funniest meme that made me so excited for the next couple of months.

Happy October Loves! The next three months are truly my favorite of the year and we are looking forward to some really exciting things coming up! We have so much going on and I have had a really hard time making the blog a priority. I have a few fun posts coming up and I am really hoping to get back into the swing of things this month.

TAKING STOCK

Making: Sweet tea and randomly Ramen noodles for lunch. I forgot how much I enjoy them.

Reading: The Ramblers is the October book for our new Book Club and I am starting it tonight. Stay Tuned.

Wanting: This weekend to get here - full post on everything that is going on will be up Sunday.

Watching: Wildworld premiere last night - anyone else watching? So weird but definitely worth a watch. We also went to see The Magnificent Seven in the theater and really enjoyed it. Henry and I are loving Kevin Can Wait. Can't wait for Frequency to premiere on Wednesday.

Drinking: Water, water, and more water.

Looking Forward To: What this month holds in store and all the upcoming changes for us.

Trying To: Work out again - I am completely off my work-out routine and have major goals of getting back to my ideal weight before the Holiday season. I am running again and will be adding in my work-out routine next month if I can get back in shape.

Wearing: My Tory Burch bag that Henry gave me for my Birthday on repeat.

Wanting: Over the Knee Boots and the perfect watch for Fall.

Working On: Making time for my blog and managing my day a little better. I have said this a million times, but I would love to be able to get up early in the morning and work-out. Hoping this will happen soon.

As always, thank you so much for reading!
