With Style and a Little Grace: April 2016

Four on Friday

- insanely good appetizers at Cork & Crust in Madison last weekend with the fam - their charcuterie tray was on point.

- two new face masks I am currently trying out - the banana oatmeal smells amazing!

- country ham and sausage cooked by my dad on Sunday before I headed home.

- pretty corners in my Dad and Suzanne's house.

Happy Friday my Friends! I hope you have an amazing weekend - I am off to play catch-up which is usually the case after a weekend of traveling and a busy work week. I am hoping to do a little resting in between. I am sure I will be snapping - GracieJohnston all weekend long - because I am slightly obsessed, so come follow along. I am in desperate need of a healthy kick start after too much gorging on everything I wanted.

As always, thank you so much for reading!

Mother's Day Gift Guide

Happy Friday Friends! I have officially gone to bed at 9 pm every single night this week and I am still playing catch up on my rest. I am filling this weekend with a much needed house cleaning, television catch-up, planning lots of fun upcoming posts and hopefully a little rest mixed in there.

Today I wanted to bring you a gift guide for the mamas in your life. I know that my mom would love everything on this list, I mean I want everything on this list. I think it is so fun especially for those mamas who never have time for themselves to get them something luxurious that they wouldn't necessarily splurge on themselves. My top picks are always: A luxurious candle, the perfect face mask for downtime, and a great bubble bath.

What are you planning on getting your mom this Mother's Day? Thank y'all for reading!

A Dress for all Occasions

This dress has officially become my favorite - it's light and comfortable and I can wear it to work, church, a fun party during the day.... it basically fits the bill for all of those. It makes me think about Jaundice Julian in Bridget Jones Diary - that's what we call an all around - something you can wear with ANYTHING to any OCCASION. Please comment and tell me you know what I am talking about. Love it!

My sweet dad shot these photos while I was visiting my family in my hometown of Athens last weekend - thanks dad you did a great job!! Henry totally thanks you for the weekend off.

How To: The Perfect Top Knot

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #RethinkYourColour #CollectiveBias

I am so officially obsessed with my new lighter hair color thanks to the John Frieda Brilliant Brunette® Visibly Brighter™ Products. You can see my full post here all about them and it was so easy to get this brighter and lighter color at home with no salon visits. I mean gorgeous color at home for a fraction of the cost of the salon - SOLD! I started out by using the Brilliant Brunette® Visibly Brighter™ Treatment and followed with the  Brilliant Brunette® Visibly Brighter™ Shampoo and   Brilliant Brunette® Visibly Brighter™ Conditioner. You can  get all the products at your local Walmart and if they don't have them in store, you can shop them on Walmart.com. I highly recommend checking them out.

I had several requests on one of my favorite ways to style my hair: the perfect top knot. So I thought I would walk you through this super simple up-do. During the Summer months I love to throw my hair up in a cute top knot for casual days in the sun or a dressy night out to dinner. I find this one of the easiest hairstyles to recreate.

Step One: Gather hair into a high pony on the top of your hair and secure with a rubber band.

Step Two: Twist hair loosely and wrap around the elastic, make sure it is loose enough to give the messy effect you are trying to achieve.

Step Three: Secure hair with bobby pins and pull out wisps if you want it a little extra messy.

Voila the easiest top knot - such a gorgeous and easy look - especially when it starts getting outrageously hot outside.

What is your go-to hair style? Let me know if you are interested in seeing more tutorial posts.

Happy Monday and thank y'all for reading!

Beautiful and Beloved

Happy Thursday Friends! I am really looking forward to this weekend because I am heading up to North Alabama to spend some time with my family. I am excited to see everyone since I only see them around 3-4 times a year. It is always a whirlwind trying to see everyone in 48 hours. I am looking for a book to listen to on my drive tomorrow afternoon - any suggestions?

Speaking of North Alabama, some of my girlfriends started this adorable t-shirt line, Same Cloth that benefits some amazing charities. Check out their site here for all the different styles and the charities that they are helping and raising awareness about. A portion of the proceeds from the tee I am wearing goes towards The WellHouse in Birmingham, Alabama - a safehouse for human trafficking victims. Buy one for yourself and for a friend. This tee was designed to remind you how beautiful and beloved you are by the ONE who created you every single time you look in the mirror. It is such a great brand and such an inspiration to make a difference. I'm obsessed, a good cause, super, cute, and cuper comfy - the trifecta!

Make sure to check them out here!

Thank you so much for reading and Happy Thursday!

Style Crush: Reese Witherspoon

I am loving following Reese Witherspoon on Insta and Snapchat recently. I have always loved her but getting more snippets into her life makes me life her even more - do I sound like a grade A stalker - look you all know you do it too! I love everything about her line Draper James and just think she embodies Southern Style that is always modern and updated. The best thing about her looks, is that they are actually great for everyday normal non-celebrity life and totally easy to recreate! She is pretty high on my fashion favorites this Spring.

Panama Hat + Dress ( I actually have this dress and this makes me want to revamp it styled this way) + Sandals + Bright Bag

Are you loving her style as much as me?

Chess Squares

Chess Squares are one of those delicious desserts that Southerners always bring to parties or luncheons and everyone devours them. They are just a staple like pecan pie and pound cake. This is probably one of the easiest and yummiest desserts to take to a function and everyone will thank you or hate you because they won't be able to stop eating them.

This is a must for your baking repertoire, especially when you don't have much time to whip something together. Henry couldn't stop eating them.

1 package yellow cake mix
1 egg
8 tablespoons butter ( melted )

1 8 Ounce package cream cheese
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 16 ounce box powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 300 and oil a 9x13 inch dish. Mix crust ingredients and press into the bottom of the pan. Mix the filling until smooth. Pour on top and bake.

300 for 40 - 50 minutes or until top is golden brown.

What is your must have recipe? Thank y'all so much for reading!

Blue Off The Shoulder

Happy Monday Friends - we had a super productive weekend and I finally caught up with my never ending to-do list. I love going and doing on the weekends but it is always nice to have one at home getting your life in order.

I bought this top a few weeks ago and I am in love with it and kind of wish I had ordered it in white and chambray as well, for only $25 - I might still do it. I just love off the shoulder style so much and I think this one will be so cute with white jeans and shorts as well. I know this will get a ton of wear this Summer.

Are y'all into the off-the shoulder trend? Thank you so much for reading!
