With Style and a Little Grace: October 2015

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween y'all! Charlie loved his costume this year and I am officially turning into the lady who dresses up her pets for all occasions. Hope everyone had a fun night - we are in that funny in between stage between having kids to trick or treat and when we used to go out to Halloween parties! With no parties this year we kept it pretty low-key. This year we dressed up our fur-baby and then went to an early sushi date/fro yo - we were home by 7 because we are officially old and we like it! Topped it off with a scary movie viewing of Frailty - that movie is crazy have y'all ever seen it?

Can't believe November is tomorrow - the Holiday season will be upon us!

Green Plaid

I'm mad for plaid y'all! The weather has been so dreary all week and it has me wanting to  curl up under a cozy blanket on the couch and drink hot chocolate. I plan on doing just that  most of the weekend. I have been watching some of my favorite Halloween movies this week on ABC family and Disney and it has me in the most festive mood. A few highlights include Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown.

This laid back plaid button up is one of my favorite easy weekend looks. I found it at H&M while shopping with my mom and the quality is great for the price. There are still a few J.Crew versions I have my eye on. Are y'all into plaid button-ups? I just feel like you can never have too many button-up options. It's comfortable but pulled together at the same time.

Happy Thursday - one more til the weekend! Friday Five tomorrow and some of my favorite snacks for Halloween

To get you ready for Halloween check out my Fall Bucket List and my list of the top scary movies to watch. I'm getting out the popcorn this weekend!

Tackling Life

Last night was the first night in over two months that I haven't had a blog post planned and ready to be written and scheduled. I had a slight panic and just couldn't think about exactly what I wanted to post. I feel like I have been on top of things but also slightly panicking and not really managing my life to the best of my abilities. I have been thinking about time management and deciding how I can really pack in everything I want to do in my day while being efficient for both of my jobs and my life and feel totally fulfilled at the end of the day. I know it's a lot right - you should be inside my brain ;) Managing your life and keeping everything organized is a constant struggle of balance. I find that I seem to bite off more than I can chew sometimes and that results in me burning the candle at both ends. I have to find a happy balance and not chastise myself when I can't fit it all in.

I thought I would share with y'all a few things that I plan on implementing back into my daily life to help me be more productive and to enhance my life.  One of my favorite things to read is the habits of successful people, especially their morning routine which is probably the hardest one for me to tackle. Don't forget to give yourself that me time every single day - it's amazing the time you come up with in a day when you plan it all out.

5:30 AM - Wake up and go for a run

6:20 AM Shower, Coffee and 10 minute devotional

7:00 AM Check blog post and make sure all scheduling is ready to go out

12:15 PM - Lunch ( healthy option and make sure to drink two water bottles before afternoon )

6:30 PM Dinner Prep - eating at home most nights - extra veggies into our routine

1 hour of veg out time

Read 30 minutes before bed

10:30 - Sleep

Let me know your tips of being your best and Happy Wednesday!

Monster Double Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Double Double Toil and Trouble! I made these chocolate cookies on Sunday and then I added more chocolate and they were ooey gooey and maybe the best cookies I have ever baked. If you are a chocolate fan you will love these! Have a large glass of milk on hand and make sure you eat them right out of the oven, holy yum! I made the batter and then I added Ghirardelli dark chocolate chunks instead of semi-sweet depending on your chocolate preference. I highly recommend you make these for your Halloween bash this weekend!

INGREDIENTS

1/2 cup of butter softened
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 large eggs
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup cocoa powder
2 cups flour
1 cup chocolate chips

RECIPE

Preheat oven to 350

Cream together butter and sugars, mix in vanilla and eggs

Dump in all your dry ingredients except chips and mix altogether

Mix in your chocolate chips

Refrigerate for 10 minutes

Scoop cookie dough onto prepared sheet sprayed with cooking oil or silicone mat

Bake 8-9 minutes depending on your oven

Let them cool and enjoy with a large cup of milk!

Let me know if you make them - they are so yummy!

Kate Spade Surprise Sale

The Kate Spade surprise sale is happening right now and there are so many fabulous bags. Now is the time to grab those Christmas presents y'all! These would make the perfect stocking stuffers and these are great for last minute gifts.

Are you going to buy something fabulous? Let me know if you do!

Pumpkin Patch

It's HALLOWEEN WEEK! OMG Henry took me to the pumpkin patch and then was promptly embarrassed to have to take individual weird pictures of his wife while everyone around us was taking pictures of their small children with pumpkins....... I told him to suck it up and snap ;) If you live in Mobile Dauphin Way Methodist has the most adorable pumpkin patch and it's our favorite to visit every year. They have the best pumpkins and lots of cute items for kids to play.

Are y'all excited for Halloween weekend? I am just so glad to be finished traveling until our trip to Virginia in December. We were literally gone every single weekend in October. We are slowing down watching scary movies this week and going trick or treating with our besties and god-children on Saturday. Can't wait. Wearing a few of my new favorites from my J.Crew haul over the weekend. This sweater is probably now the most comfortable one I own.

Also can we just talk about Adele's new song? On repeat and I am OBSESSED - her best ever! SOOOO GOOD! She is freaking amazing. Happy Monday y'all! Hope it's frighteningly spooktacular!

Expectations VS. Reality

I am probably the world's worst about going into every single situation with the highest expectations - this is going to be the most amazing trip we have ever had, this coffee shop is going to have the best cup of coffee we have ever tasted, this is going to be the most magical delicious amazing cake I have ever baked. This Holiday season will be candy cane glitter and rainbow sparkles 24/7 with perfect Christmas cards and the perfect gift for everyone wrapped in individually personalized wrapping paper and bows for their personality. Complete with a Christmas charm.

Ever the eternal optimist as my husband says. I know it might sound a little ridiculous but if you know me personally you know that it is totally my personality and in the process I put endless amounts of pressure on myself to make everything perfect and when things don't live up to my expectations I can be really hard on myself.

I have learned countless times that I can't expect others to do things the way I think they should and that's ok - everyone is different. All I can do is the best I can and live my life the way I want. It might not always be perfect but it is real and full of love.  I don't think it's a bad thing to have high expectations, I think it always leaves something to keep you inspired.

When I stood in my imperfect kitchen tonight eating leftover pizza with my husband - our dog standing under our feet begging for a slice even though he knows he isn't supposed to and rain falling lightly on the roof -  in that moment there was no place in the world I would rather be. I am learning that it's the middle balance between reality and your expectations of the future where you can really have a ton of fun. I know I am.

J.Crew Haul

Happy Saturday y'all! So I know I said I was on a shopping hiatus but I had a work conference in Sandestin on Friday and on my way out of town this morning I had to hit up the outlets and might have done a tiny bit of shopping. I thought I would share with y'all a cheeky little haul. I went to J.Crew and Brooks Brothers - I found some really cute items plus a few great button-ups for Henry.

Metallic Tweed Mini Skirt - this skirt is gorgeous in person and I thought it would be really cute for the Holiday season.

Cap Sleeve Blouse  - simple black blouse to tuck into my skirt - think this will be really cute with tights and pumps.

Curved Hem Sweater  - I will totally live in this cozy sweater on the daily

Camp Socks in Aqua  - cozy winter socks to wear with my boots

Tortoise Points Necklace - finally scooped up this necklace which is even cuter in person and  I know will go with everything. I think it will be really cute with my new sweater too.

Hope y'all are having a great weekend! Halloween week starts tomorrow!!!!!
