With Style and a Little Grace: May 2015

Sunday Stock // Part 3

Our Honeymoon St. Lucia June 2013

SUNDAY STOCK

I feel like summer days should be slow and sun filled - long afternoons sipping cold iced tea and reading my latest romance novel or current thriller. In my mind that is what they are- in reality 5 days out of the summer are spent working -dreaming of the ways I can cram it all in on the weekend but when the weekend gets there you are tired or you have a thousand errands or chores to do. That can be so hard sometimes especially seeing everyone else's instagram that seriously make you wonder if anyone else in the world has to work but you? Anyone else? I'm not saying that I don't have my share of fun vacations - we are truly blessed but in this day in age when everyone's highlight reel is perfect the struggle is real.

Also on my mind
30

It's coming August 26th
I don't think it is turning 30 that freaks me out - I am seriously looking forward to this era in my life - babies, playdates, growing our family, growing more comfortable with myself everyday extra wrinkles and all- I can't wait for my thirties! I think the fear lies in getting to that place. I am so ready for it and I know that it is right around the corner but I need to live in the here and now - embrace where we are in our life right this second instead of constantly thinking about tomorrow. Also, I had so much I wanted to do before 30 - like seriously y'all I had a list on my phone:  travel to Europe, take a big road trip, buy our first home, buy an expensive handbag, throw a party, visit new york again with Henry, take a photography class, do a wine-tasting. I highly doubt that is all going to happen in the next 3 months. It's just not realistic or financially an option.

And that's OK - I have an amazing husband who loves me unconditionally, a precious dog named Charlie who is excited to see me every single day, healthy family and insanely loyal and amazing friends.

Making: white cheddar pimento cheese - recipe tomorrow on the blog it's divine y'all

Drinking: sweet tea

Reading: nightingale by kristin hannah - haven't gotten very far

Watching: RKOBH, game of thrones, old gilmore girls episodes

Listening to: La Mer - currently obsessed with french music

Eating: wings Henry grilled for dinner

Enjoying: you-tube may favorites videos

Thank y'all for reading this totally random post and let me know if I am the only crazy one out there that thinks about all these things haha!

Summer Corn, Black Bean, and Avocado Salad

I came back from the holiday weekend a few pounds heavier and ready to eat lots of veggies. Henry and I are getting back to healthy habits and with summer here I am craving light and crisp meals. Enter this recipe. I love every single ingredient in this salad. The cilantro and lemon adds the most amazing flavor. You will want to eat the entire bowl. It makes a pretty good size - I enjoy it as a salad but it would be great in a pita or with tortillas. I could eat this every single day and I probably will for lunch this week.

Are you into summer salads? I am thinking about doing several different options coming up. Also did y'all watch the Southern Charm finale? When she was running screaming THOMAS - I almost lost it I was laughing so hard. Can't wait for the reunion. I have also started watching the Sex and the City reruns on Oxygen - one of my favorite things to do in the summer.

Memorial Day Weekend + Taking Stock 2

Hi Everyone! Hope you all had a fantastic long weekend! Ours was one of the most fun weekends we have had in a long time - with a tiny side of car trouble, nothing a new battery didn't fix. We headed to Birmingham for a wedding on Friday and had the most amazing time catching up with friends.

The wedding was amazing and unfortunately my iphone pics are super grainy. Sunday we hit the road and went to Athens for the day to see my whole family. I haven't seen anyone since Christmas so it was such a great day catching up with everyone and seeing them. Sunday night we came home super late and spent Memorial Day on the water a little bit but mostly resting up after a whirlwind weekend. I also got some amazing new items from the J.Crew sale that I can't wait to get in.

Blue Lagoon

My love affair with playsuits continues with this blue floral number. I came out before our pictures and told Henry I was promptly ready for our tropical vacation to Bora Bora - sadly that is not on the Johnston agenda anytime soon. But I will be looking quite festive at the next summer BBQ we attend.
I am enjoying adding some bright hues into my wardrobe this season and this is definitely a bold little number. It doesn't hurt my feelings that I got this beauty for $21 either. Just can't beat that price point!

Book Review - Andy Cohen Most Talkative

Oh Andy Cohen - you had me at Susan Lucci and then again with your Oprah interviews! I am not normally one for biographies but recently there have been several on my must read list and this one did not disappoint. Such a great Summer read y'all! You will adore Andy Cohen and his humor. Purchase his book here. Lots of fun dirt on the housewives and fun little celeb run ins and interviews. I love learning about his love for television and how he came to Bravo and got into the housewives franchise.

Mobile Bay May Issue

Happy Sunday y'all! I am so excited to share some of my favorite pictures from my shoot with Mobile Bay magazine that didn't make the May issue. It is also on stands in Mobile. I am so beyond thrilled with how it turned out and thankful that they asked me to be a part of it.

Friday Five

- 1st Hydrangea blooms of the season in our yard

This week has been a whirlwind and I don't exactly know why. I have felt busy but haven't really had anything out of the ordinary going on. Just a constant rush and not enough time in the day. Do you ever feel like this? Currently - I signed up for my sewing class that I am taking in June and I can't wait. I went back to the gym - long overdue and very good for my sanity/stress. I am looking forward to a laid back weekend with no major plans. My best friend is in town for a wedding and I plan on spending some major quality time with her today either poolside or for a little lunch date. I might also have a little date with my DVR.

What do you want to eat for dinner?

As a couple, Henry and I love to go out to dinner. We find places that we love and we become loyal advocates. If we come into a restaurant and they remember us and call us by name, you have officially hooked my husband and he will probably come see you forever. When our mexican restaurant shut down I literally was in mourning and may have shed a tear. True story. I like my cheese dip ok, don't judge me.

When we first started dating Henry would tell me that his grandaddy always said if a restaurant didn't have cars in the parking lot we shouldn't be eating there and I have to say it's a rule that we Johnston's abide by. We don't play.

The only issue we ever have is deciding where we want to eat - unless it's sushi night. You know the old addage, you get in the car - where do you want to eat? I don't care where do you want to eat? And the circle goes round and round. Does this happen to you? On one epic car ride with friends this game went on so long that we drove to dinner in Pensacola, it's hardcore with our group of friends. We even developed a system where the person whose turn it is has to pick the place we eat. This goes alphabetically.

I feel like this is a totally normal issue or are we the most indecisive people on the planet. Either way what do you want for dinner is always a loaded question.
